The Client iQ Method: A 5-Step Marketing Diagnosis

Five steps, in order, every time: the same diagnostic process we run on every client, laid out so you can run it yourself.

Step 1: Diagnose Reality

Before you spend a dollar, look at what's actually happening in your numbers, not what you assume is happening. Pull your last 90 days: website visitors, enquiries, quotes sent, jobs won. Most businesses find the leak is earlier in the funnel than they thought.

Step 2: Stabilise What Works

Find whatever is already performing at or above benchmark for your trade or industry, and leave it alone while you work on everything else. Consistency before innovation. Don't rebuild the website while your Google Business Profile is quietly doing the heavy lifting.

Step 3: Identify the Next Dial

Work backwards: sales → conversations → traffic. If you're getting plenty of traffic but few enquiries, that's a conversion or messaging problem, not a traffic problem. More ad spend will just make it worse, faster.

Step 4: Test, Measure, Refine

Change one thing. Measure it against a real benchmark for your trade (see our benchmarks section). Only then change the next thing. Random simultaneous changes make it impossible to know what actually worked.

Step 5: Teach for Ownership

Whoever runs your business day-to-day should understand your core numbers (cost per lead, conversion rate, average job value) well enough to notice when something's off, without waiting for a monthly report.
